Broward County shares Miami-Dade's status as one of only two counties inside Florida's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Homes here are held to the same elevated wind-load and product-testing standards, and your wind mitigation inspection reflects that.

What's different about the form here?

Like Miami-Dade, Broward homes can qualify for the top tier of Question 1 through either the standard 2001 Florida Building Code path or the HVHZ-specific 1994 South Florida Building Code path, which requires a qualifying permit dated on or after September 1, 1994. A pre-2001 home in Broward is worth checking against both dates rather than assuming an older home automatically scores at the bottom of that question. Roofing and opening-protection products installed here are frequently documented against a Miami-Dade NOA number as well, since it is widely recognized across South Florida's HVHZ counties, though a statewide Florida Building Code product approval works equally well. One more thing changed in 2026: Florida moved the form from seven questions to nine (OIR-B1-1802, Rev. 04/26, effective April 1), so a report written before that date will not line up question-for-question with a fresh one.

Florida's licensee register lists 648 active home inspector licences with a Broward County address, the 2nd highest of the state's 67 counties and 9.1% of the 7,150 held statewide. The towns holding the most are Pembroke Pines (71), Fort Lauderdale (59), Plantation (54), Miramar (46).
