Your wind mitigation report is simply your completed OIR-B1-1802 form plus the inspector's supporting photos. Reading it is mostly a matter of understanding that every question is graded on a letter scale, and that earlier letters (A, B) generally mean stronger, more credit-worthy construction than later ones (C, D, N, X).

What order should I check the answers in?

Start with Question 1, building code compliance. An "A" or "B" answer here (built to the 2001 code, or the HVHZ 1994 code in Miami-Dade or Broward) already carries the largest share of your potential discount on its own, per the Florida DFS consumer guide. Then move to Question 7, opening protection, since it is graded on your weakest opening and is the item most likely to surprise a homeowner who assumed every window was covered.

What does 'no attic access' mean on my report?

Roof-deck attachment (Question 3) and roof-to-wall attachment (Question 4) can only be scored from inside the attic. If the inspector marks "no attic access," those two questions default to the lowest score even if the actual construction is strong, simply because it could not be verified. If your report shows this, ask the inspector what would be needed to get attic access on a follow-up visit, since it can be the difference between a partial and a full discount.

What should I do with the report once I have it?

Send the completed form, with all required photos attached, to your insurance agent or company for pricing. Keep a copy for yourself: it stays valid for up to five years and you may need it again at renewal or if you switch carriers. If any answer looks wrong to you, for example if a feature you know exists is marked unknown, ask the inspector to clarify or re-visit rather than accepting the lower score, since a corrected form can mean a real premium difference.
